OVERALL REVIEW:
3.5/5 cool star emojis
Good Summer Read
Plot: Started off all over the place, but got its shit together by the end of the second book.
Writing: 3rd person but with 2 POVs… yeah it was kinda weird at first, but you get used to it after the first couple of chapters (and the writing is just better in the second book).
Honest Feelings: I honestly wish Castroman started the series with the second book and went on from there, or combined the two books into one book and then continued the series… It felt like she wrote a very detailed prequel chapter and then stopped writing the book (which I guess is what it was supposed to be, but low key, high key disappointed)
Also side note: Although from the synopsis it feels as though Teach should be the main character no one can deny that Anne ruled these books and was the star of the show.
Basically, the end of the second book reaches the stage in which there is solid character development, a strong plot line, and a group of main characters that won’t disappear on you (that you like and have potential to grow). AKA the reader is finally invested in the story, and then the series ends. #petitioningforbook3 #Iknowthatprobablywon’thappenbutstill
Highlight: The relationship between Anne and Teach #they’reprettycute (*cough*they’re hella cute*cough*)
And book 2. Just book 2. Blacksouls is the highlight. (aka we finally get character development).
The first book is worth reading for the second book: I don’t know what happened in between 2015 and 2016, but Castroman made mad progress from Blackhearts to Blacksouls. #MostImprovedAward
